Bentley 4 1/2 litre 1928 Chassis number ST3001 'Old Mother Gun' Special High Detail Model of the 1928 Le Mans winner. Bentley 4 1/2 litre background This special 'high detail' version of the model is now available. The model is based on the standard version including the separate fabric bonnet straps with hand-made wire buckles. There is a tensioning wire between the front wings. It also has a lift off bonnet showing the engine, which is wired up. The fuel tank has separate brass fuel pipes. The battery box on the side has connecting wires. All of this additional detail can be seen in the photographs. There is considerable extra work in adding these details to the standard model, which has unfortunately had to be reflected in the price. The standard model can be seen on the previous page. Barnato (Chairman of Bentley Motors from 1926 to 1931) raced Old Mother Gun at Le Mans in 1928. He won the race in spite of a crack in the chassis frame and a top water hose which pulled out on the last lap. British Racing Green. |
